The Mātauranga Innovation Hub concept was piloted to support new approaches to Te Tiriti partnerships with a focus on achieving equitable practices and outcomes for Māori within vocational education. The pilot of this kaupapa enabled Tokona te Raki (TTR) to develop a temporary space/condition to trial innovation in four regions within Te Waipounamu over the period of 12 months. Further it has enabled rangatahi social innovators to lead in this space.
The working hypothesis at the outset of this project was that each of the four hubs hold equal status and are supported in their innovation and prototype development via the support of TTR, Kā Puna Karia (KPK), mana whenua (representatives on the design teams), and tangata Tiriti (design team participants) woven into innovation teams.
